Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a Trip to Guanajuato Tacos in Kildeer.

Try Taco G's Special Atumnal Menu

Spread the love

New Autumnal offerings at this unique casual taco spot located only 33 miles from Chicago in the Northwest suburb of Kildeer (20771 North Rand Road) in the Quentin Common’s Shopping Plaza make a trip to this eatery so worthwhile. The creative geniuses behind Tacos Guanajuato (Gwan nah wah’ toe), the sister restaurant to the upscale Guanajuato Mexican Restaurant on Greenbay Road in Winnetka, are Executive Chef Jovanny Diaz and Chef Margaritta Challenger whose restaurant group Salsalito, Inc., have introduced seven new savory tacos, that feature a medley of our Midwest Fall harvest. There is a Carne Asada marinated Skirt Steak Taco served with onions, cilantro, red cabbage, and avocado. My favorite is the grilled Rib Eye Taco accompanied by grilled chihuahua cheese, red cabbage, cilantro, and radishes. Their famous slow-cooked overnight Barbacoa Taco is topped with cilantro, red cabbage, shaved radishes, and finished with avocado sauce. Bacon and Chorizo Tacos ooze melted cheese, chipotle mayonnaise and are topped with piquant fresh cilantro and pickled onions. Included also, are more traditional tacos such as Al Pastor (pork & pineapple), Chicken, Ground Beef, and Carnitas (pork) tacos. There is a taco for everyone. Seafood lovers and vegetarians are considered in the following menu items: Grilled Shrimp Tacos, Tilapia Tacos, Grilled Mahi Tacos, Salmon Tacos, Vegetarian Tacos, Sweet Potato Tacos, and on special occasions another of my favorites, Octopus Tacos are featured. Tacos are reasonably priced from $4.00 to $5.00 each so you can mix and match and share. Remember to save room for an entree and dessert.

Tacos are not the only offerings at Tacos G. They have a variety of burritos, tamales, soup, quesadillas, guacamole, and sandwiches. There are sweet corn tamales, a Pozole Verde Bowl, homemade salsa, other special toppings like skinny coleslaw, and mango relish Every dish is homemade and screams seasonally fresh, artfully crafted, sophisticated street fare. You will enjoy dining in a casual, pleasant, scrupulously clean setting. The tortillas are handmade fresh daily. They make their own masa and the finished product shows their love and attention to detail. The food is amazing and the modern twists on traditional dishes are both innovative and delicious. They put their heart and soul into their restaurants and you can relish the delicious difference. Margaritta Challenger and Chef Diaz are sharing their passion for the treasured food memories of a childhood spent in Guanajuato. Recently, I read the Modern Romance Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Her novel is set in the 1950’s mountainous former silver mining region of Guanajuato. It describes the mysterious beauty of this regional state and city with the same name. There is a rich tradition of supernatural legends, fine culture, diverse foods, and amazing Colonial architecture in this central region of Mexico. This restaurant pays homage to the chefs’ picturesque hometown. Chef Challenger and Diaz bring you the best in Mexican comfort cuisine that can be enjoyed without the former restrictions of Covid-19. You can dine in their charming, colorful, jewel-box restaurant indoors or al fresco on the beautiful newly expanded flower garden patio.

They have a full-service bar where they make their own sour mix; have an extensive selection of tequilas and specialty Margaritas. You can also order a Horchata de Arroz (milk, rice, cinnamon beverage). Desserts are Tres Leche Cake and the Flan which was so delectable. There is also homemade churros dessert served with ice cream.
