I AM BLOWN AWAY !!!! I’ve now seen DRAG THE MUSICAL twice and I can say without reservation (althought you will need tickets) it is two hours of JOY, HEART, KICK ASS DANCING (in heels) with a cast of the hottest talent on Broadway in a new musical. The Band is so FIRE – and plays a rock n roll beat throughout – and how they do it with five members is a mystery to me – They are amazing! The cast of DRAG: The Musical is inspired and created by RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Alaska Thunderf**k and this Alaska is hot enough to melt a glacier. The show follows two rival drag bars, each fighting for survival while dealing with financial troubles. Alaska wrote the musical alongside collaborators Tomas Costanza and Ashley GordonSpencer Liff is directing and choreographing.

The talent is so fabulous! – that you’ll be carried away for the entire performance – life’s troubles can be paused and smiles and tears can flow. And if you leave with joy in your heart and maybe a little empathy for others…well that would be nice too.

We are blessed with a cast full of stars, some with Broadway credits and some making their off Broadway debut. Nick Adams plays Alexis Gillmore he’s a Broadway veteran and it’s not his first show in heels. Nick’s vocal prowess as well as his biceps are that of an Olympic Champion. Honestly – could not take my eyes off this extraordinary performer. The cast includes legendary Joey Mcintyre, Eddie Korbich, J Elaine MarcosI (what role doesn’t she play) and a terrific ensemble of talent featuring Lagoona Bloo, Luxx Noir London, Liisi La Fontaine, Jan Sport, Jujubee, Nick Laughlin and covering multiple roles and holding it all together Nicholas Kraft, Christine Shepard, Kodiak Thompson, Teddy Wilon JR. AND…two incredible young stars of today – share the role of Brendan: Yair Keydar and Remi Tuckman. Their show stopping number speaks volumes and their execution is dynamic, sensitive and memorable. This is a show for everyone because it is relatable on so many levels: economic challenges, family dynamics and freedom.

Many of the cast members spoke of their personal and deep connection to the show’s subject matter and their desire and gratitute to be able to help share the story. Nick Laughlin a professional Director spoke of coming out of his performance retirement to once again don heels…….

What does it mean to be a swing? understudy? In addition to performing their specified roles several of the actors cover other roles. Learning multiple tracks, songs, scenes, entrances and exits and like any essential worker they are ready without notice to perform. It is mind boggling how they do it – but they do! Kodiak Thompson is the Dance Captain, Swing and principal cover for Alexis. He was kind enough in between shows to share his thoughts….

Nicholas Kraft is also in the ensemble and covers a principal role. Thank you to all the cast members who took a moment in between shows to share their feelings. It’s a rave from me.

P.S. Liza Minnelli is one of the producers and would love for you to see the show!
