The 2018 Celebration of Life Luncheon is one of the most glamorous and significant events in Austin to celebrate life. Every year numerous women attend to empower and give support to those that face the painful and difficult experience of breast cancer. This year 750 people were in attendance and over $450K was raised during the celebration. Pink is the color representing breast cancer awareness and many of the attendants wore the color pink to support breast cancer survivors and awareness; the “Julian Gold” 2018 Fall/Winter line presented different shades of pink of its collection. The remarkable Celebration of Life Luncheon event brings a very powerful message each year about the importance of annual breast cancer screenings and supports the funding for breast cancer research, treatment, and care. The proceeds from the 2018 Celebration of Life Luncheon benefits the Senton Breast Cancer Center to enhance and expand care with state of the art equipment and supports breast cancer awareness and education nationally (20%).

Seton Breast Care Center

The Seton Breast Care Center (SBCC) at Seton Medical Center Austin is accessible and affordable to all who seek preventative care and those with a breast cancer diagnosis.  The SBCC provides state-of-the-art imaging technology and, for those who are diagnosed with cancer, a multidisciplinary approach to providing personalized treatment and support to patients and their loved ones.

The SBCC opened in February 2014 with a conservative goal of 90 patients within the first 90 days. That goal was far exceeded as 592 patients visited the Center during that time period.  In just 4 years, the SBCC has provided care to over 8,500 patients and performed more than 15,000 services including bone density scans, 3D mammography, stereotactic breast biopsies, breast sonography and breast 3T MRI’s.  More than 1,300 women have been guided through their care by a nurse navigator – and over 30% of services are provided to financially vulnerable women without insurance.

These services are key to early detection and better outcomes. Nationwide, the 5-year survival rate for women whose breast cancer is detected and treated during the earliest stage is 99%, making the services at the Seton Breast Care Center truly lifesaving.

Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation

Zeta Tau Alpha’s national philanthropy is breast cancer education and awareness and is carried out through the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation, established in 1954. One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, so this cause is personal. Breast cancer touches many lives.

Through local and national partnerships, campus and community initiatives, and the distribution of millions of pink ribbons since 1992, ZTA collegiate and alumnae members are dedicated to our philanthropy. By spreading the message of breast cancer education and awareness, ZTA sisters are determined to diminish this disease.

The ZTA Fraternity was founded on October 15, 1898, at the Virginia State Female Normal School (now Longwood University) in Farmville, Virginia.  It is the second largest of the 26 groups that are members of the National Panhellenic Conference.

ZTA has more than 252,000 initiated members, 169 active Collegiate Chapters, and 238 active Alumnae Chapters.  The Austin Alumnae Chapter is the oldest ZTA Alumnae Chapter in existence, having been founded and continuously in existence since October 23, 1912.
